“Can large language models democratize access to dual-use biotechnology? In 1 hour, the chatbots: suggested 4 potential pandemic pathogens; explained how they can be generated from synthetic DNA using reverse genetics; supplied the names of DNA synthesis companies unlikely to screen orders; identified detailed protocols and how to troubleshoot them; recommended that anyone lacking the skills to perform reverse genetics engage a core facility or contract research organization...” https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.03809

The most important conclusions to be drawn from Wagner's coup attempt:
1. Russia itself is almost completely defenseless, with most of its military tied up or destroyed in Ukraine. This was confirmed earlier by the incursions into the Russian Belgorod region.
2. Russia is more like a gang of organized criminals fighting each other than a real country.
3. Russia has unbelievable levels of incompetence.
The rebuilt apartment block was presumably built mostly by women. I'd be curious to read an article from that angle.
