Commies say that nobody needs billionaires. I say that the world needs trillionaires!
There are moonshot projects that both the market and the government are unable to implement due to profit and popularity gaps they cannot overcome in the same way that natural selection cannot overcome certain fitness gaps in order to build a radio.
Trillionaires would be sufficiently independent of market forces and the goodwill of the plebs in order to brute force their way into things like self-sufficient asteroid mining and longevity escape velocity.

That makes the assumption that these trillionaires would be magically both sufficiently intelligent and morally aligned to make ethical and net-positive choices for future development as opposed to say enslaving small countries for fun, buying off elections in bigger ones and building a yacht the size of Africa. That's a big gamble.
