Google Says Its New Image Search Features Are Like ‘Ctrl+F for the World Around You’: “When explaining the feature, Raghavan used the example of trying to find a nut-free chocolate bar in a supermarket. You’ll be able to scan an entire shelf of chocolate bars and then see overlays that provide ‘helpful insights,’ like reviews about each object. We think Raghavan’s description of the feature sums this up quite nicely: ‘This is like having a supercharged Ctrl+F for the world around you.’” https://www.theverge.com/2022/5/11/23063809/google-lens-multisearch-feature-ai-io-near-me-scene-exploration

“But the argument that human evolution is similar to pre-training (so your life is just a matter of fine-tuning) and thus provides an existence proof that large-scale DL alone can bring human-level generalisation capabilities doesn't fly, for a very simple reason...” https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1525441767780360192.html
“…the claim upon which the whole movement rested—that police more readily shoot black people—was false. The data was unequivocal. It showed that, if anything, police were slightly less likely to use lethal force against black suspects than white ones...A pattern was starting to emerge: Reporters and editors would omit key details that undermined the BLM narrative. More important than reporting accurately was upholding—nurturing—that storyline. At some point, the organization went from ignoring key facts to just reporting lies...” https://bariweiss.substack.com/p/i-criticized-blm-then-i-was-fired?s=r
Is there still any justification for using helicopters for surveillance rather than drones?
Helicopters are still used by law enforcement in the pursuit of suspects, to search for missing people or traffic supervision.
I bet a tank filling of a helicopter costs more than several drones. One could probably buy several thousands of drones for the price of the helicopter itself, its maintenance, and the pilot training.
