The new IPCC AR6 actually gave us more confidence that climate change is *not* an existential risk. Very high sensitivity outcomes of 5C+ are now deemed to be very unlikely. But, if contrary to expectations, climate change turns out to be catastrophic, you can thank environmentalists for it.
Environmentalists have repeatedly sabotaged the most promising technical solutions and ways to mitigate the worst consequences of climate change:
- Decades of lies spread by environmental groups and green parties made nuclear power expensive and unpopular https://rootsofprogress.org/devanney-on-the-nuclear-flop
- Green Groups have been thwarting geothermal solutions to energy problems https://freebeacon.com/policy/green-groups-thwarting-geothermal-solutions-to-energy-problems/amp/
- Geoengineering research (potentially our last hope if things go awry) has been repeatedly stalled by environmentalists https://www.dw.com/en/germany-blasts-geo-engineering-scheme-in-atlantic/a-3949424
- Constant misinformation campaigns against genetically modified crops have hampered research and will make it very difficult to convince poor countries to adopt crops that have been engineered to withstand heatwaves and droughts.
But we don't even need to imagine a potential climate catastrophe. Even in the absence of climate change, the number of casualties in the 21st century which are directly caused by misinformation spread by environmentalists is expected to run into the millions:
- Propaganda against GM crops like golden rice has cost millions of lives and led to malnutrition and blindness https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/oct/26/gm-golden-rice-delay-cost-millions-of-lives-child-blindness
- Air pollution, of which a majority is caused by coal power plants and fossil fuels, reduces global life expectancy by 2.2 years on average. That could have been prevented had countries adopted nuclear power
